Do Not Open Until Christmas
A little closer but still a mile away from finishing. The closer we get, the farther away it seems to be. We are experiencing the same anticipations we did when we were kids; when we just couldn’t wait for Christmas morning to arrive.
Maybe we will put the big red bow on the new range and cut it before Santa visits, and maybe not. Most of the trim is in. None of the tile backsplash is in place, and some of the special trim tile pieces are still on order. The (correct) hood is installed along with the (correct) hood liner. The roof vent will not be started until (next?) week, and then only if we have no rain. The stove will not be placed until the gas line is moved (again!) and an access door is in place to hide the gas shutoff valve.
The refrigerator won’t be moved from the living room until the electrical is finished. A couple of switches need to be added, the outlets finished everywhere, power to the disposal, power to the dishwasher in place, and a new outlet for the new microwave. Then more paint. Then another coat of paint. Then cleanup.
Outside on the deck the new shelving with doors unit is halfway finished (and halfway painted). More cleanup. There are probably 20 construction sized black poly bags on the deck and in the backyard that have to go. At least the bags are sealed, or were at one time. Maybe the kitty has a surprise for the nice construction guys?
Oh well, Happy Holidays! Wish we had a tree…
Are We There Yet?
Are we there yet?
Seems like we’ve been on this trip for awhile now. How long has it been since the new kitchen update began? Four weeks, five, no six er seven.
I am tired of microwave cooking. I am tired of fast food. I am tired of slow food. I think I will not be hungry by the time the kitchen is finished.
Tomorrow is Thanksgiving. Vicki and I will travel 40-50-60 miles for a real meal at my brother’s home. Oh boy, real oven baked turkey and dressing. Maybe gravy, stove cooked starches(!) and southern style veggies, and real desserts. Oh and I can not forget the canned cranberry jelly wih the ridges/grooves there for easy slicing. I think I might stay a few extra days… check out a fried egg, scrambled egg, poached egg, or boiled egg. Did you know you can microwave an egg? Yep, just punch a hole in the shell and let it rip. I am not going to even attempt that.
Oh well, it’s time to think about losing weight again. I’ll take another lap around the new kitchen and dream of the finished product.
